TCM Herbal Medication

TCM herbs are largely plant based, with a few animal/mineral based herbs. All are properly treated to reduce toxicity and improve treatment value, with few side effects.

It is the main treatment option in TCM  for a large variety of diseases. 

Acupuncture

On specific acupuncture points on the body, thin needles are inserted into the skin and left for around 20 min before removal. When breaking skin some pain similar to ant bite will be felt, afterwards there can be a sensation of soreness/swelling/numbness, due to the stimulation of the acupoint.

Acupunture can improve blood circulation, reduce pain, relieve music tension and improve body functions.

Suitable for pain, numbness, reduced range of movement (eg. frozen shoulder) and internal conditions such as insomnia, dizziness, indigestion.

Tuina

It is similar to chiropractor and massage, but done according to TCM meridians and acupuncture points.

It is suitable for pain, numbness, reduced range of movement and facet joint syndromes

Cupping

Using glass cups and fire to cause suction onto the skin and then removing it, or slide on the surface of the skin. It will leave circular dark spots where the cups have been placed.

It is suitable for muscle tension and pain of the back and shoulders or large skin areas.

Moxibustion

Using a stick of incense of Chinese mugwort (Ai Ye) lighted at one end, hover it over acupoints or area of pain to warm the area. The burning of Chinese mugwort gives off a distinct pungent smell.

Chinese mugwort has warming properties and improves blood and Qi circulation, hence good for pain management due to cold conditions, such as arthritis and menstral cramps.

Scraping (Gua Sha)

Using a blunt and smooth side of a board (usually plastic or ox horn), scrape on the surface of the skin in one direction. The process is somewhat painful and the skin will redden. This is usually done on the back or at the throat.

Its effects are to remove heat, improve blood circulation, relieve music tension.
